Energy Manager Certification Course

INTRODUCTION

 

The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Law (RA 11285) which was signed in November 2019 calls for all companies (Designated Establishments, DE) with aggregate energy consumption of a minimum of 500,000 kWh-equivalent per year to appoint an Energy Conservation Officer or Energy Manager, implement an Energy Management System following ISO 50001 or equivalent, and undergo an Energy Audit once every 3 years.

 

The appointed Energy Conservation Officer or Energy Manager shall undergo certification training from a Recognized Training Institution (PIEMPI) and apply for certification from the Department of Energy. The Energy Conservation Officer or Energy Manager shall oversee the implementation of an Energy Management System in his/her establishment to monitor, manage, control, and reduce energy consumption. He shall also oversee the conduct of Energy Audit once every 3 years, the first deadline of which is December 2022.

 

The ENERGY MANAGER CERTIFICATION COURSE

 

Program Objectives

 

At the end of the training program, the participant shall be able to:

 

  1. Familiarize with the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Law RA 11285

  2. Familiarize with the ISO 50001:2018 Energy Management System international standard

  3. Implement an Energy Management System in your company establishment

  4. Conduct an Energy Audit in your company establishment

  5. Familiarize with Energy Management Best Practices

  6. Familiarize with Energy Systems Optimization techniques, and

  7. Implement an integrated approach to achieving energy savings and regulatory compliance.

 

Skills and knowledge requirements of Trainees

Recommended to have at least 3 years of experience in operations, engineering, facilities management, engineering design, maintenance, project management or energy related activities.

 

  1. Preferably handling a position as Manager, Supervisor, Senior Staff, Consultant, or related positions connected with a Type 1 or Type 2 Designated Establishment. Energy data shall be needed from these establishments to complete the course.

  2. Working knowledge on MS Office (Excel, Word and Powerpoint).

  3. Must be a licensed engineer or a graduate of any four-year course.

  4. Must have basic knowledge in the following fields:

    • Health, Safety and Environment, Machine functions and operation

    • Workplace communication, working in a Team, critical thinking and problem solving

Benefits of the program

 

This course equips the participants with the competency to comply with the DOE requirements on energy efficiency and conservation such as the implementation & improvement of energy efficiency measures, conduct of regular energy audit, energy monitoring & control, and preparation of periodic energy utilization and energy conservation program reports. The course also enables the participants to maximize the opportunities and reduce the risks brought about by energy related issues, and better manage the energy consumption of the facilities, equipment, and devices.

 

A Certificate of Completion shall be given to participants who attended all eight (8) sessions and achieved a minimum score of 70% in the final test. Otherwise, a Certificate of Attendance shall be given to the participant. The participant may opt to take a remedial test upon payment of additional fee. The Certificate of Completion shall be submitted to DOE along with other documents to be accredited as a Certified Energy Manager or Certified Energy Conservation Officer.

 

Plus! All participants who pass the course shall be invited to become a member of the Philippine Institute of Energy Management Professional, Inc. with 6-months FREE membership.

 

Training Methods:

 

  1. The webinars shall include lectures using PowerPoint, examples, and short workshops.

  2. Sample applications shall be given to participants during the webinar in a workshop to practice the tools and learnings.

  3. A test/evaluation shall be instituted in the following:

    • At the start of the training to establish baseline knowledge of the participants

    • At the end of the training to establish the retention level of learning

  4. An assessment survey shall be conducted to the participants to get feedback on the course and speakers.

Training Requirements:

  1. PIEMPI shall provide the platform (Zoom) for the webinar. A link shall be sent to the participant via email prior to each training day.

  2. Participant’s registration shall be sent via email.

  3. A Guide to Participants shall be sent to registered participants.

  4. PIEMPI shall provide the training handouts in pdf format.

  5. Participants should be fully paid prior to receiving the Zoom link for the webinar series.

  6. Participants are advised to join using a single device (laptop, etc.)

  7. Participants shall need energy data from an establishment for the Energy Review.
